Crime Classification Manual Part I Chapter 5 49
A
STANDARD SYSTEM FOR INVESTIGATING AND CLASSIFYING VIOLENT CRIMES
SECOND
EDITION
The
second configuration operates on one computer but with several sign ons and
passwords available. This option provides individual, tracked access to the
database, but is more costly as licensing issues come into play.
The
third configuration operates in a client-server environment. Here the VI CAP
software resides in the server and is accessible from as many client computers
as the law enforcement entity wishes—or can afford—to network with the server.
Although this is the most expensive option in terms of both equipment (clients
and servers) and licenses, this option provides individual access to the
database by multiple persons at the same instant in time.
