SECOND EDITION
CASE STUDY: 104: KIDNAP MURDER
Background
At 9:50 P.M. on July
26, 1988, the Jackson Police Department, Jackson, Mis- sissippi, received a
phone call from Robert Hearin. His wife, Annie, was missing. Hearin had arrived
home late that afternoon to an empty house and had become increasingly alarmed
after calling friends in an attempt to locate his wife. A search of the area by
police produced a ransom note that had been left in the foyer. The note
demanded that Hearin pay twelve people who had fought legal battles with School
Pictures of Mississippi, which he owned.
