Stella Nickell had a restless yearning to buy the property the Nickell trailer stood on and open a tropical fish store. Her ambitions were becoming insistent. At the age of forty-four, she had an increasing awareness of the gap between her dreams and reality. To her, the gap seemed to be widening faster as each year passed. That her husband was frequently unemployed rein- forced her belief that if she did not act soon, her dreams would slip away for good. In addition, she felt her husband was not much fun since he had stopped drinking.
