Defining Characteristics
Victimology. The
first hour of birth is particularly high risk for this type of victim. Male
infants are more often killed than female infants on the day of birth, which is
also the day children are most at risk of filicide. The typical neonaticide
victim is born to a mother who has concealed his in-utero existence, from
herself as well as others in her life.
There is no
human connection to the developing fetus. Ultimately the mother denies the
neonate’s victimhood.
