Crime Classification Manual Part II Chapter 6 B 65

A STANDARD SYSTEM FOR INVESTIGATING AND CLASSIFYING VIOLENT CRIMES

SECOND EDITION

Investigative Considerations

In a commercially motivated homicide, the business relationship and corporate structure should be checked. As in individual profit murder, the offender’s preoffense financial status should be examined. In addition, the victim’s pre- offense status should be checked, because motive for the killing could be that the victim was costing the company money (through faulty investments, ineffectual business decisions, or alcohol problems, for example).
