Inspection of
a suspect’s employment history is important: the investigator should look for
frequent job changes with a corresponding increase of mortality associated with
the suspect’s employment. Other consideration includes a significant rise in
cardiopulmonary arrests or deaths in a particular patient population,
cardiopulmonary arrests or deaths inconsistent with the patient’s condition,
cardiopulmonary deaths localized to a particular shift, or postmortem
examinations revealing toxic levels of an injectable substance.
