Inspection of a suspect’s employment history is important: the investigator should look for frequent job changes with a corresponding increase of mortality associated with the suspect’s employment. Other consideration includes a significant rise in cardiopulmonary arrests or deaths in a particular patient population, cardiopulmonary arrests or deaths inconsistent with the patient’s condition, cardiopulmonary deaths localized to a particular shift, or postmortem examinations revealing toxic levels of an injectable substance.
