The precipitating event that links the victim and offender is the key point of this investigation. However, this event may hold significance only to the offender and not be obvious to those associated with the offender or victim. It may not be obvious to the investigator either. Also of importance is any significant person in either the offender’s or the victim’s life who may have direct or indirect involvement with the incident.
