The offender
communicated by telephone with the victim’s parents two days after the
abduction and then with the victim’s sister. With his voice dis- guised, the
offender asked for forgiveness and expressed remorse. He gave the impression
the victim was still alive. He told the victim’s family he had taken her to a
house where she was tied to the bed. Twelve hours later, the offender gave her
a choice as to the method of her death: strangulation, suffocation, or
drowning. The victim chose suffocation, at which time the of- fender placed
duct tape over her nose and mouth.
