MURDER
A hostage
murder is a homicide that takes place within the context of a hostage
situation. A hostage is defined as a person held and threatened by an offender
to force the fulfillment of substantive demands made on a third party. In such
situations, the victim clearly is being threatened by the of- fender and the
threats are used to influence someone else, usually the police. When this
situation escalates and the victim is killed, it is hostage murder.
