In one instance, the offender approached a couple as they were about to enter their apartment. He came up behind them and forced his way into the apartment after them. He made the boyfriend stand in the corner of the room facing the wall while he raped the woman. The second offense had a similar MO. During the rape, Joe made degrading racial comments to both the victims and their boyfriends.
