The defendant had a criminal record, which included at least one prior domestic violence case (in which the victim was his “wife” and his prostitute). The victim in that case had a daughter, not believed to be the defendants. That case went to trial, but the defendant was convicted only of a misdemeanor, not the numerous felonies he was indicted on.
